Barcelona, Marseilles, and Florence

These photos are from the ports of call and shore excursions of Barcelona, Spain and continue through Marseilles, France and Florence/Livorno, Italy.  The photos correspond closely to my text review of the Splendour of the Seas and are in date/time order.

Above : Two views from the hotel at which I stayed - the Hotel Majestic.  The photos are taken from the top floor which is outdoors and features a pool and sauna facilities.

Embarkation & Sailaway

Above Left : Lifeboat drill took place at approximately 4:45 PM.  To the right, we shared pier space with an ex-Carnival ship now titled the Topaz.

Above : We set sail at 7:00 PM with a beautiful Barcelona sunset.  Crowds were sparse as first seating dinner was taking place.

Marseilles, France

Above : Our first stop on the excursion «Les Baux», we stopped at Les Antiques for a brief period to take photographs.

Above : Our second stop included a view of Les Baux from a distance (left) and a brief moment to explore the wine caves.  Even with a forewarning, many guests proceeded ahead in curiosity!

Above : Here is a distant view of Les Baux to which we would be driving in our coach next.

Above : The left view is taken from Les Baux of the countryside and the right view is from within the quaint streets of Les Baus.  Here, one can explore shops and restaurants at a leisurely pace.

Livorno (Florence), Italy

Above : Our tour guide Paola took us through many sites in Florence before giving us free-time to explore on our own.

Above : These photos reveal the beautiful and intricate architecture in the heart of Florence.  The photo on the right is unique in that is depicts three different styles of architecture through three different periods.

Above : Of course, no trip to Florence would be complete without getting a photo of the statue of David.  This is a copy but the original lies within a close geographic location from there.

Above : To the left is one of the beautiful statues located in the Piazza di Santa Croce and to the right is the beautiful Arne River with the Ponte Vecchio visible in the distance.
