Europe 2000 Photo Gallery

Naples, Italy

These photos are from the ports of call and shore excursions of Naples, Italy.  The photos correspond closely to my text review of the Splendour of the Seas and are in date/time order.

Above : Some of the first, beautiful impressions of Pompeii.  To the left is "La Porta" or the main entrance into Pompeii.

Above Left : Surprisingly, there are body forms preserved from when they were first buried beneath thirty feet of ash.  There are many of these body preservations throughout Pompeii in the positions that they were in when the ash fell.

Above Right : Some canine friends took a cool break by enjoying the cool marble.  Even with hundreds of tourists passing through, they did not seem to mind!

Above : The many rooms that one sees while passing through the streets of Pompeii were home and shops.  Above and to the left, our tour guide Giuseppe points out some of the methods of grinding that were used in this former bakery.

Above : These are beautiful greens that are located just outside of the entrance to Pompeii.

Above : Along the Amalfi drive, we could see Sorrento in the distance along with many breathtaking views.  Off of the coast of Sorrento was the Saga Rose, whose guests tendered in.

Above : Here is just one glance of the beautiful surroundings of downtown Sorrento.

Above : After heading to the island of Capri, we took a trolley to one of the highest points for breathtaking views!  The ship's photographers were also available there for professionally taken photographs.

Above : Just more of the sweeping views from the very top of Capri.  To the right are some winding and narrow pathways on which we saw tourists and locals walking.

Above : One of the best views that we had from a long and tiring day ashore! ....
