The
Viking Crown Lounge was originally pioneered aboard the former Song
of Norway in 1970. At that time it was a revolutionary
movement that replicated itself aboard future fleet mates such as Nordic
Prince and Sun Viking.
To date, all Royal Caribbean ships have this striking feature that
provides expansive views and serves as the ship's nightclub on many
vessels.
Vision of
the Seas' Viking Crown Lounge accommodates 250 guests, serves as an
observatory by day and as the ship's discotheque by evening.
There
are a number of works of art throughout the Viking Crown Lounge that
accentuate the mood. Along the elevator walls are leg-shaped resin
sculptures by artist Gunhild Strømmes. These amulets were used by
the Vikings as magic objects believed to protect one from all evil.
On the upper level of the Viking Crown Lounge is 'The Ice Ship' by
artist Mike Newby. When he was creating this piece, images of
northern landscapes came to mind. The sculpture is composed of 350
individual pieces of glass extending up to 2.5 meters above deck
level. Mike Newby also created the glass sculpture 'Fats Waller'
for Sovereign of the Seas.
