Closing Thoughts

Radiance of the Seas in Vancouver, BC - 2002 Left : Radiance of the Seas demonstrates the Radiance-Class ships' uniquely designed sterns.  Among some of the distinguishing features creating the stern profile is the expansive aft windows from The Congo Bar.
Left : 'Red Wave' by Norwegian artist Espen Tollefsen, 1963.  A landscape in a flower.  Colors and textures when magnified are like a red landscape.  Like a lava flow from a volcano or textures from a woven fabric.

Right : This enamel on metal piece of work was furnished by Brazilian artist Alex Flemming and it from 'As You Like It', 'Julius Caesar', and 'Hamlet'.  The sheer size invites guests to engage in direct eye contact.  The faces attract attention as well as the texts, taken from works by Shakespeare.  It is as though each of the people pictured has something important to say.
Left : 'Phases' by Norwegian artist Kari Skoe Fredriksen.  Her work is created in a meeting point between the arts and craft movement and pop-art.  She explores the relationship between us and our possessions by using photos and familiar everyday industrial products in a playful way.

Right : Andy Warhol created this piece, 'Ingrid Bergman with Hat, Marilyn, Ingrid Bergman Herself'.  Andy Warhol is considered to be one of the most influential Americans and most famous for his Pop Art.  According to Warhol, "My idea of a good picture is one that's in focus and of a famous person."
Left : Also by Norwegian Kari Skoe Fredriksen is 'On the Edge I', 1967.  Photos by Fredriksen's then eight year old grandmother (at right), and her sisters, dressed up like adults in the 1890's, are fragmented and placed on the edge of stacks of plates.  The girls appear like ghosts and the plates become their vehicle, like when an image triggers a forgotten memory.
Radiance of the Seas in Vancouver, BC - 2002 Radiance of the Seas in Seattle, Washington - 2002 Left : Radiance of the Seas', as shown here, displays her striking aft view profile enhanced by the signature Viking Crown Lounge and Crown & Anchor logo.

The famous 'Crown & Anchor' logo and Viking Crown Lounge concept was introduced aboard the former Song of Norway and continues its legend today.  I proudly claim my first cruise experience having been aboard Song of Norway in 1987.
