The Maasdam's
Greenhouse Spa is located completely forward on Lido Deck.
Overlooking the ship's bow is the ship's gymnasium. The gymnasium is
comprehensively fitted with cardiovascular and weight training
equipment. Fitness classes are also held in this area.
On the starboard side of the ship is the Thermal Suite. Within the
Thermal Suite, guests can enjoy sauna, steam, and hydrotherapy
facilities. There are also heated ceramic lounges that are
reminiscent of a Turkish bath. The Thermal Suite is available for a
surcharge and can be purchased in day or voyage length durations.
At the entrance to the Greenhouse Spa is the Maasdam's Beauty
Salon. Guests can book appointments here for hair, body, skin, and
nail treatments. A number of massage and spa treatment rooms line
the starboard side of the Greenhouse Spa with sea views.
Proceeding aft from the Greenhouse Spa, guests enter the amidships pool
with sliding glass Magrodome overhead. The Magrodome can close
overhead for inclement weather and allow guests to continue to enjoy the
poolside experience. Five bronze dolphins anchor the forward end of
the pool. Artist Suzanna Holt originally sculpted these dolphins in
clay at one-fourth of the finished size. In Paris, a cutting key (pentagraph)
was used for the final sizing. The final casting was done in
Sarasota in 1992.
For casual dining
poolside, guests may choose to visit the Terrace Grill. The Dolphin
Bar is located aft of the pool. At the port side of the Dolphin Bar
are ceramic bowls that are the work of artist Jan Snoeck. He created
three separate bowls, making a composite picture of a stylized
dolphin. The piece was completed in 1990.
Occupying the amidships and aft section of Lido Deck is the Lido
Restaurant, seating 450 guests. The Lido Restaurant is the Maasdam's
casual dining venue. Guests can enjoy breakfast and lunch buffet
style in the Lido Restaurant. Casual dining by evening is also
available. Bar service is available at any time throughout the day
as well.
Parallel lines are available in the Lido Restaurant and offer a variety of
food types divided by stations. Beverage stations are also available
on the port and starboard sides. A dominant figure located at the
starboard side beverage station is a ship's figurehead carved in oak from
1810 and depicts an Indian woman. It adorned the bow of a trading
vessel transporting goods to the West coast of the United States.
Guests
may also dine outdoors aft of the Lido Restaurant where table seating is
available. The aft staircase on Lido Deck leads up one deck to the
facilities of Club HAL. The wall hanging in the staircase was
designed by artist Jan Snoeck in 1990 and would normally be used as a
floor covering.
